Frontline work

Frontline work is where strategy either becomes action or is just talk. In most organisations, the problem is not a lack of strategy, but the burden, ambiguity and loneliness of day-to-day management. Front-line managers are caught between objectives, people, change and constant haste, often without adequate tools or support.

Good chaperone work is not about heroics or total people management. Above all, it is the ability to do the right things in everyday life, with sufficient skill, consistency and clarity.

Typical challenges of frontline work

The same themes recur with our customers, regardless of the sector:

  • My role as an employer's representative is unclear: what is really expected of me as a pre-employee?
  • Time is spent putting out fires, not managing them.
  • Difficult discussions are postponed or avoided.
  • The changes come from above, but their meaning remains unclear.
  • The protagonists feel alone under pressure.
  • Management practices vary too much from one person to another.
  • There are no common ground rules for chaperone work.
  • The focus of frontline work is on things, not people.

In these situations, chaperone work can easily become reactive. The result is stressed chaperones, insecurity in the teams and reduced performance.

What kind of pre-personal work do organisations need now?

Effective chaperone work does not come from manuals or individual training days, but requires a common language, clear structures and concrete models. In the current context, chaperone work places particular emphasis on:

  • Clear goals and expectations for everyday activities
  • The ability to prioritise and say no
  • Regular and high-quality interaction with the team
  • Courage to intervene in time in difficult situations
  • Translating change into everyday understanding
  • Strengthening your own ability to cope and manage your work

The role of the frontline worker is often that of a messenger or buffer zone between management and employees. In this role, he or she is a key player whose work enables day-to-day results to be achieved.

How can we help you develop your chaperone work?

We help our clients to make chauffeur-driven work clearer, more effective and more human.

Typically, we support our customers in the following ways:

  • We clarify the role and expectations of chairs
We will help you define what it means to be a chaperone in your organisation and where your chaperones' time and energy should be spent.
  • We build common management practices
We create structures that work: how goals are managed, how discussions take place and how changes are consistently driven forward.
  • We strengthen the practical skills of the chaperones
We will practise setting goals, feedback discussions, difficult situations and leading a team through change.
  • Supporting frontline workers through change
We help frontline staff to understand their role in change and give their teams clarity, security and direction in the face of uncertainty.
  • We create space for learning and peer support
We build programmes and sparring sessions where frontline workers are not left alone, but learn from each other and get support to manage their daily lives.

Frontline work is the most important lever in an organisation - and often the least supported. When frontline work is clear, consistent and well-managed, the strategy starts to show up in day-to-day decisions, actions and results.
